It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Theofore Masselos, Nota's co-founder at the age of 84. Born in 1936 at Chania, Crete he attended the Middle Commercial Academy and later started working as a accountant with an apparel manufacturer in Athens, where he met his future wife Nota Masselos nee Dritsa, In 1962 at the of 26 they founded "Nota", initially as "Amaryllis" in a small workshop on 22 Evangelistrias street at the historical center of Athens. The company grew explosively eventually becoming a well known home wear brand with an International presence.
An avid sportsman, initially as a rower and later as a tennis player, rising to number 8th in the rankings for Crete, skier and later a sailor, fisherman and hunter. Hunting was his great passion, having travelled in the course of his lifetime to England, Scotland, Romania, Bulgaria, Egypt, Zimbabwe and to every corner of Greece, solely for that purpose. He took great care of the family estate in Isthmia, regaling family and friends with olives, olive oil and fresh fruits and vegetables he grew.
Together with his son Vassilis they have built an important collection of Antique maps of Crete which was partially presented in 2004 at the "Candia, Creta, Kriti" exhibition hosted by the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation.
His kindness, his amazing sense of humor and his wisdom will be sorely missed.
